Have you just finished your dental cleaning and want to dig into your favorite meal? Well, hold on to that thought for a minute! While delving into your favorite delicacies might seem tempting, waiting for some time affects the results a lot. So, how long do you have to wait to eat food after a teeth cleaning? Not more than 30 minutes!

So, When Can You Start Eating?

It is generally recommended that you wait 30 minutes after your teeth cleaning session before starting to eat. This waiting period gives your mouth enough time to calm down and relax from the taxing cleaning process. It also gives fluoride ample time to settle inside your enamel and strengthen it.

However, if your dentist does not give your teeth a final fluoride flush during cleaning, you can eat immediately afterward. Still, it is better to have soft foods for the first 24 hours.

What Can You Eat After a Dental Cleaning?

Dental caregivers advise you to exercise caution about what you choose to eat even after 30 minutes of teeth cleaning. This is to give your mouth time to get out of the numbing spell post the deep cleaning procedure. Eating while you cannot feel anything in the mouth increases the chances of injuries such as accidentally biting your tongue or cheek.

Other than that, expect your gums to be sore or tender after a dental cleaning. However, this sensitivity usually goes away after a few days.

Food Items You Can Indulge In

Here is a list of items you can take pleasure from guilt-free:

  • Applesauce
  • Mashed Eggs
  • Macaroni and cheese
  • Mashed potatoes
  • Mashed bananas
  • Fruit smoothies
  • Yogurt
  • Soups that are not too hot
  • Soft rice
  • Soft-boiled pasta
  • Mashed vegetables
  • Meat broth

Things You Should Not Eat After Teeth Cleaning

With so many options to eat, I do not think there are any restrictions involved. Some foods you should avoid eating after a deep dental cleaning session include.

  • Acidic fruits such as tomatoes and oranges should be used for 2 consecutive days after treatment.
  • Steer clear of spicy food for 2 days. However, you can reintroduce peppers around the 48-hour mark after the cleaning.
  • No alcohol or alcohol-based drinks for 2 days to ensure proper healing.
  • Do not munch on anything that is crunchy or sharp, such as popcorn.
  • Avoid anything hot
